Across the state, there is plentiful evidence of a burgeoning wine industry. Thirty years ago, there were about two dozen wineries scattered across the Lone Star State. According to TABC, there are now more than 480. The Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association (TWGGA) notes the numerous varieties of grapes that feed the expanding appetite of Texas wineries.
Following the largest grape harvest in Texas history in 2017, the state’s vineyards are poised to surpass last year’s 13,000-ton output in 2018. It is possible that the 2018 grape harvest will help the state’s wineries surpass last year’s record production of 1.8 million cases.
