The hometown of its legendary namesake, Lyndon Baines Johnson, Johnson City is an historic town less than an hour west of Austin, Texas. The natural beauty of Johnson City and its surroundings is a popular spot for those fortunate enough to live in the area including ranches, vacation homes and retirement properties. The LBJ Park is just west of Johnson City and was the vacation home for President Lyndon Johnson during his presidency and his retirement years. President Johnson’s final resting place is also located in this park.

Johnson City is nestled next to the Pedernales River, home to a variety of popular activities year round. The Pedernales River is a popular destination spot for kayakers, as well as those who enjoy fishing and camping in this wonderful part of Central Texas. There is no shortage of outdoor activities for Johnson City residents and its visitors. Popular spots include the Johnson City Water Sports facility, Exotic Animal Zoo, the Johnson City Hiking Path and the Johnson City Swimming Pool.

The preservation of the great outdoors is a pinnacle of Johnson City’s initiatives. This is evident by the lot of nature preserves that surround the Johnson City area including the Westcave Preserve, Reimer’s Ranch Preserve, the Bamberger Ranch Preserve and the Hamilton Pool Reserve.

The Johnson City area is blessed with a climate that lends to quality wines. There are four vineyards around Johnson City offering tours and tastings throughout the year. The rolling hills are also home to the lovely shades and scents of several lavender farms. This area produces more lavender flowers and seeds than in any other part of the country.

Johnson City is both a small, historic town as well as the gateway to some of the most beautiful Texas hill country to be found. Its proximity to urban areas provides the conveniences of modern life yet its remote placement makes for an idyllic life, enjoyed by the fortunate few.
